Wolf trap is one of those places that you might hear about and say, “I should take advantage of that. It’s so close to Richmond.”
This past month my husband Kevin and I took 2 trips to see some great performances. The first was a sold out show with Steve Martin, who really does play the banjo well, and his Steep Canyon Rangers. The second this past week featured Los Lobos who performed their lively best-known song “La Bemba”! It is quite a feather in an artist’s cap to perform in this peaceful spot right off the 495 beltways. Other performers we have seen here include John Prine, Emmy Lou Harris and Bonnie Raitt.
Wolf trap gets much of its charm and National Park Service because of its donation of land from the Shouse family. Mrs. Shouse in the mid 1950’s developed the spot so her children would have a love of Nature. She designed it to remind her of her New England farm. With he development of the Towson area and Dulles Airport some of the original tract of land remains. In 1969 Mrs. Shouse donated the land to the Foundation of Performing Arts. Wolf Trap is now a leader in artistic and education programs and performances.
It is an outside inside event where you can sit under the raised theater in comfortable theater seats, or out on the lawn with your picnic baskets and bottles of fine wine! Acoustics are fantastic.
Tickets range from $25-$45. Learn more at wolftrap.org.
