Feature of the Month December: A “Plunge Pool” and a Gorgeous Lawn
When this client told us she wanted a plunge pool in her back yard, we had to Google pictures of this latest craze. A what!?
These small pools (this one is 8’ by 16’) are usually built for urban dwellers. Jets can be installed so you “swim upstream” for exercise and fitness. It can double as a large hot tub in the cold weather. You can special order lights, jets, benches, whistles, and bells…anything the big pools have.
We worked with Steve at Play MOR Pools and my fantastic client to design the space.
Steve dropped in the fiberglass shell and hooked up all the equipment.
We created in the terrace, reworked drainage, re-graded the yard, designed and built the fence between the alley and yard, and set up garden beds that will be planted in the spring. Oh yes and don’t forget the sod.
Take a look!
Picture a back yard of lawn and basketball court. …then..

Take note of the mucky pond to the left of the pool.

A myriad of PVC pipes are laid under the mud to a sump pump. The sump pump dumps into to a huge (5’ by 6’) dry well we made in the alley.

Here is the finished terrace with coping around the pool. We had to use a marble dust for the coping mortar. Otherwise the mortared spaces would crumble with chorine and salt water.

The fence drops back from the alley for garbage cans. They are accessed from the ally but set back so passing cars doesn’t slam them.

Placing 1/2 ton stone steppers for an easy step down from the alley.

Winter is a great time to lay sod. Think of all the rain!
